At the rear of RGHQ9's canteen
we
recently experienced a number of small
sandstone falls. During January 2003 we
worked to stabilise this area by removing
any loose or suspect areas of sandstone.
|
A large chunk of rock
on the corner of
bay 48 opposite to the 1940's canteen was found to be in danger
of falling. Although the tours do not pass this point we thought
it prudent to remove the problem. Here, during March 2003,
Roger takes steps to remedy the situation.

The result of Roger's work
did not transpire untill the following week. The rock had not
fallen immediately but must have done so between visits.
(Thanks to Ian for the photo)

Roger inspects the collapsing
ceiling of the
'Uniformed Services' department during March 2003.We are unable
to do anything at this time other than observe the gradual
deteriation of this area. In other areas we have removed the
offending ceiling, propped up sections and removed the strip
lighting.
